During the last day of the session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva this Friday, a resolution was passed that will allow a mission of the agency to investigate crimes against humanity and human rights violations committed by the Nicolás Maduro regime.
The resolution that was proposed by the countries belonging to the Lima Group had 19 votes in favor, 21 abstentions and 7 votes against. It seeks the nomination of a fact-finding mission that travels to Venezuela to investigate extrajudicial executions, cases of torture, arbitrary detentions and disappearances committed by the Venezuelan State.
One of the main problems that this opinion will face is that the Venezuelan regime has already stated that it will not allow entry to the UN mission, therefore, the investigation will be carried out remotely, the resolution also demands that Venezuela allow entry to 10 UN rapporteurs and recommends their return to the IACHR
Already the previous day a new sentence had been approved in which Venezuela accepted the establishment of an office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the country.
